We really are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful outdoor photography locations in Dorset. Whether you're looking for somewhere for a family session, maternity photos or a couples shoot, there are so many different landscapes to choose from.

Dorset beaches and the coast

The Dorset coastline gives us so much variety. There are soft sandy beaches, pebbly shores, dramatic cliffs and quiet little spots that can make beautiful backdrops for photographs.

Beach sessions are particularly lovely around sunset, when the light becomes softer and warmer. Children can run along the sand, couples can walk hand in hand and families can simply enjoy being together while I capture what happens naturally.

Woodlands and nature reserves

If the beach isn't your thing, Dorset's woodlands and nature reserves are another favourite of mine.

Woodland sessions can feel really peaceful, with plenty of shade during the warmer months and lots of texture and colour throughout the year. Spring brings fresh greenery and wildflowers, while autumn gives us those beautiful warm, earthy tones.

Nature reserves are also great for families with children who need a bit of freedom to explore. There's no expectation for everyone to stand still and smile, they can investigate their surroundings, run ahead, find interesting things and just be themselves.

Wildflower meadows and countryside

During spring and summer, wildflower meadows can be absolutely beautiful. The colours and soft natural surroundings make a lovely setting for maternity and couples photography, as well as relaxed family sessions.

Dorset's countryside also gives us plenty of open spaces, fields and quiet paths to explore. Sometimes the simplest locations create the most beautiful photographs.

Dorset's moors and open landscapes

For something a little different, Dorset's moorland and higher open landscapes offer incredible views and huge skies. The earthy colours and natural textures work beautifully in photographs, particularly when we're lucky enough to have some gorgeous golden-hour light.

These locations can be especially lovely for couples and maternity sessions, but they're also a great choice for families who enjoy being outdoors and exploring.

Finding the right location for your photography session

There isn't one location that's perfect for everyone. The best choice will depend on the time of year, the type of session you're having and, most importantly, what feels right for you.

Maybe you're happiest walking along the beach, exploring a woodland or wandering through the countryside. Perhaps there's somewhere that already holds special memories for your family or your relationship.

I'm always happy to chat through ideas and help you choose a Dorset photography location that suits you. The scenery is important, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable enough to relax, have fun and enjoy the experience together.
